Remarks:
Varin is a poet, philosopher, cartographer, and occasional prophet. Its prophecies even sometimes come true. (These prophecies usually run along the lines of 'if you leave that fish out where I can see it, I'm going to eat it.') Varin generally has several projects on the go, and it documents them usually with Krog's help. It also enjoys gathering alchemical ingredients and other raw materials for Krog, and it likes to pick up nice rocks it finds and leave them in piles. Sometimes it oozes black slime when it's very happy. It vents excess, stale magic from its back tendrils, in the form of opaque black bubbles.
Varin is a surprisingly timid demon considering its size. It has unusually weak magic for an agrilthean, and is very self-conscious about this. Despite its wariness of humans, it has been known to ferry human travellers across bodies of water.
In addition to its nostrils and gills, Varin has spiracles on its neck that it uses to breathe in air when its faceplates are closed. When its plates are closed, it cannot see, and cannot smell or hear much. It rarely speaks when its plates are closed, and when it does its speech is muffled. Varin feels calmer when its plates are closed, and it becomes easily agitated during the period when it plates shed and regrow.
Varin's home is some underwater pools/caves that lead off Krog’s house's cellar at one end, and into some hidden mountain caves at the other. (Despite the hard-to-find entrance, Krog still had a lockable grate installed because they didn't appreciate the idea of someone being able to get in their house that way.) One of Varin's projects is mapping the mountain caves.
